Mastering the Kasrah Sounds: خِ (Khaa), دِ (Daal), and ذِ (Dhaal) in Arabic
Dear Parents and Little Learners,
Welcome to Lesson 20 — we’re moving full steam ahead on our Kasrah journey! With each new letter, your child is not only learning to read Arabic, but also building confidence and joy in the process, alhamdulillah.
This week, three more special letters have arrived, each wearing the light, whispery Kasrah ( ـِ ) beneath them. Let’s meet them:
خِ (Khaa with Kasrah) – sounding like a gentle "khi", deep and airy, like the breeze from a whispering cave.
دِ (Daal with Kasrah) – giving us a clear, neat "di", like the tap of a tiny drum.
ذِ (Dhaal with Kasrah) – offering a soft "dhi", like a buzzing bee with a smile!
These three letters might look simple, but each one holds its own character and sound magic. In this lesson, your child will practice hearing, tracing, and saying these new kasrah sounds with accuracy and joy.
So get ready to dive in — with crayons, smiles, and lots of encouragement — as we continue unlocking the world of Arabic, one beautiful sound at a time!
Key Learning Points of this Lesson
Recognize the letters خ, د, and ذ when paired with the Kasrah vowel, forming the sounds خِ (Khi), دِ (Di), and ذِ (Dhi).
Pronounce each sound accurately, noting the throat-heavy tone of خِ, the soft clarity of دِ, and the gentle buzzing of ذِ.
Strengthen writing skills by tracing the new letters with Kasrah, reinforcing muscle memory and visual recognition.
Develop sound-letter connection by matching spoken sounds to the correct written form.
Use the practice worksheet to review and repeat the new sounds through tracing, matching, and mini-word building.
Boost reading readiness by combining Kasrah letters from previous lessons into playful revision games.

Fun Activities
1. “Catch the Kasrah!” Card Toss
What you need: Flashcards with letters خِ, دِ, and ذِ, plus a small soft ball or beanbag.
How to play:
Spread the flashcards on the floor. Call out a sound (e.g., "Find Dhi!") and have your child toss the ball onto the correct card.
You can switch roles and let them call out the sound while you toss — they love being the “teacher”!
2. Kasrah Detective Game
What you need: A mini “letter mystery” sheet with a mix of letters (some with Kasrah, some without).
How to play:
Tell your child they are the Kasrah Detective! They have to circle only the letters with Kasrah (e.g., خِ, دِ, ذِ) and say their sounds out loud as they find them.
Make it even more fun by giving them a detective name and a magnifying glass!
3. Sound Walk and Say
What you need: Print or draw large versions of خِ, دِ, and ذِ, and tape them to the wall or place them on the floor.
How to play:
Play some nasheed or drum rhythm in the background. As your child walks or dances from one letter to another, pause the music randomly.
When the music stops, they must say the sound of the letter they’re standing on — clearly and confidently!
We’d Love to Hear About Your Child’s Khid-Dhid-Di Discovery Day!
How did your little learner enjoy exploring خِ, دِ, and ذِ in today’s Kasrah adventure? Whether it was a giggle during the “Catch the Kasrah” game or a proud smile after tracing the letters just right — we’d be thrilled to hear all about it!
Feel free to drop us a quick comment, share a photo of their activity sheet, or even send a short video. Teacher Noura is always excited to cheer on their progress and send a special note of encouragement, inshaAllah.
Every new sound your child learns is another key in unlocking the beautiful world of Arabic. By recognizing letters, connecting shapes to sounds, and reading simple combinations, they’re laying a strong foundation — not just for reading Arabic, but for a lifelong connection to the Quran.
You’re doing a truly wonderful job, mashaAllah. Your patience, presence, and positivity are making all the difference. So keep going — this journey is blooming beautifully, one Kasrah sound at a time!
