Bayt Al-Quran: Noorani Qaida-Lesson#27| Monday
Learning the Arabic Letters: أُ (Alif), بُ (Baa), تُ (Taa), and ثُ (Thaa) with the Dammah Vowel (ـُ)
Dear Parents and Little Learners,
Alhamdulillah — we’ve reached a beautiful milestone in our Noorani Qaida journey! Your child has now completed all the Arabic letters with Kasrah ( ـِ ), and we couldn't be more proud of how far they’ve come. Every traced letter, every whispered sound, every moment of effort — it’s all brought us to this exciting new chapter.
Now, it’s time to welcome a cheerful new guest: the Dammah!
Today in Lesson #27, we begin learning Arabic letters with the Dammah ( ـُ ) — a small curl-like sign that gives each letter a bouncy “u” sound.
We’re starting this new vowel with familiar friends:
أُ (Alif), بُ (Baa), تُ (Taa), and ثُ (Thaa).
Imagine these letters waking up from a nap — stretching and saying a happy “uuh!” That’s the joyful sound Dammah brings. As your child learns to read and say these new sounds, they’ll continue building their Arabic skills with confidence, one vowel at a time.
Let’s keep the momentum going, and may each step forward bring your child closer to a heart that loves the Quran, inshaAllah!
Key Learning Objectives
Recognize and pronounce the Dammah (ـُ) sound correctly on the letters: أُ, بُ, تُ, and ثُ
Understand how Dammah changes the sound of a letter to a “u” sound
Practice differentiating between Kasrah ( ـِ ) and Dammah ( ـُ ) vowel sounds
Trace each letter with Dammah to strengthen visual recognition and writing confidence
Begin reading simple letter combinations with Dammah fluently
Build listening and articulation skills through repetition and sound play
Strengthen memory and recall through interactive and playful exercises

Dammah Discovery Time – Let the Fun Begin!
Now that we’re stepping into the exciting world of Dammah, it’s time to make learning extra fun! To support today’s lesson, we’ve created a vibrant and playful Activity Sheet all about the letters أُ, بُ, تُ, and ثُ — each carrying the cheerful “u” sound.
Inside, you’ll find engaging exercises that help your child trace, match, and sound out each letter with confidence. It’s not just review — it’s a chance to turn new sounds into a joyful game.
Perfect for practice after class or during a cozy learning moment at home, this printable will help your little learner build strong reading skills, one smile and one Dammah at a time!
1. Dammah Sound Toss
What you need: A soft ball or beanbag, and flashcards with the letters أُ, بُ, تُ, and ثُ
How to play:
Lay the flashcards on the floor in a circle. Call out a letter-sound (like “بُ!”), and your child has to toss the ball onto the correct card. Every correct toss gets a cheer and a new word using that sound (e.g., “بُ for بُرتقال!” – orange).
2. "Uuh" Sound Puzzle Match
What you need: Cut-out puzzle pieces (you can make these at home!)
How to play:
One side of each puzzle piece has a letter with Dammah (e.g., تُ), and the other side has a matching picture or word that begins with the same sound (e.g., تُفاح – apple). Your child matches and builds their sound-puzzle garden!
3. Echo the Sound!
What you need: Just your voices!
How to play:
You say the letter-sound in a fun voice (robot, whisper, monster, singer), and your child echoes it back. Example: You say, “ثُ!” in a squeaky mouse voice — they copy it. This builds pronunciation confidence while sparking laughter.
We’d Love to Hear How Your Little One Enjoyed Their First Dammah Lesson!
Was there a giggle during the Echo Game? A proud smile while tracing أُ, بُ, تُ, ثُ? We’d be so happy to know how your child experienced today’s Dammah adventure!
Feel free to share a comment, a quick photo of their activity sheet, or even a short video clip — Teacher Noura would love to cheer them on and send back a special note of encouragement, inshaAllah.
Every time your child learns a new sound, they’re adding another bright step on their journey toward reading the Quran. And you, dear parent, are the guiding star behind it all. Keep going — one Dammah sound at a time, you’re building something truly beautiful.
