Exploring the Dammah Sounds: جُ (Jeem), حُ (Haa), and خُ (Khaa) — Learning to Read with Dammah Vowel (ـُ)
Assalamu Alaikum to Our Quran Stars and Their Amazing Guides!
Alhamdulillah — after a joyful start to our Dammah journey, we’re moving ahead with excitement into Lesson 28, where three beautifully shaped Arabic letters await discovery!
In this lesson, we’ll meet:
جُ (Jeem), حُ (Haa), and خُ (Khaa) — each topped with a cheerful Dammah (ـُ), giving them a playful “u” sound.
Each letter brings its own flair: the gentle curl of جُ, the soft breath of حُ, and the strong throaty sound of خُ — making this lesson a rich mix of fun and phonics.
Through tracing, listening, and joyful repetition, your child will strengthen their letter recognition and pronunciation skills — one Dammah sound at a time!
Let's Begin!
Key Learning Objectives for Lesson:
Identify and pronounce the letters C (Jeem), حُ (Haa), and خُ (Khaa) with the Dammah (ـُ) vowel correctly.
Distinguish between the soft, airy, and deep-throated sounds these letters produce with Dammah.
Strengthen visual recognition by tracing the unique shapes of ج, ح, and خ.
Match each letter to its correct Dammah sound through fun listening and speaking activities.
Build confidence in reading simple syllables with Dammah as a foundation for future fluency.
Reinforce memory through repetition and hands-on practice with accompanying worksheets and games.

Some Playful Activities
1. Dammah Juice Bar
Set up a pretend "juice bar" with cups labeled جُ, حُ, and خُ. Prepare letter cards with various letters (some correct, some not). As the “juice chef,” your child picks a card, reads the letter with the Dammah sound, and places it into the matching cup — only the right juice can go in the right glass! Mix in fun phrases like “Hmm, this juice tastes like khoo!” for extra giggles.
2. Sound & Shape Play-Dough Station
Set up a tray with printed letters جُ, حُ, and خُ. Let your child shape each letter out of play-dough while saying the sound out loud. The tactile fun helps lock in both the shape and the sound — a perfect multisensory memory boost!
3. Mini Sound Detectives
Hide letter cards of جُ, حُ, and خُ around the room. Give your child a “detective badge” and let them search for and collect the correct letters. Each time they find one, they have to say its sound before keeping it in their collection. Add a small prize or sticker reward for extra excitement!
We’d Love to Hear From You
Did your little one light up while spotting جُ in the Sound Safari? Or maybe they proudly traced خُ with extra care? We’d be delighted to hear how today’s Dammah lesson went!
Send us a quick message, a snapshot of their completed worksheet, or a short video of them practicing — Teacher Noura would be overjoyed to cheer them on with a special message of encouragement, inshaAllah.
Every new sound mastered is a joyful step forward — helping your child recognize, pronounce, and connect Arabic letters with confidence. And you’re the heart of this beautiful journey. Keep up the amazing work — one dammah at a time, you're nurturing a love for the Quran that will last a lifetime.
