Getting Confident with Curved Letters: فُ, كُ, and قُ — Strengthening Arabic Reading with the Dammah Vowel (ـُ)
Another step forward, another sound unlocked! Welcome to Lesson 33 — where we explore the rounded, rising sounds of فُ (Faa), كُ (Kaaf), and قُ (Qaaf) with the joyful Dammah vowel.
This trio of letters introduces bold and bouncy sounds that tickle the tongue and delight the ears. Think of bubbles floating upward — that’s how Dammah sounds feel! When your child says فُ, it’s like a puff of air; كُ has a gentle kick; and قُ gives us a deep, echoing bounce from the back of the throat.
Through fun repetition, clear examples, and creative activities, your child will not only pronounce these sounds confidently but also start recognizing them inside short words. It’s all part of growing stronger in their Arabic reading journey, one vowel at a time.
Let’s dive in — and let those Dammah sounds fly high!

Let’s Practice Dammah with فُ, كُ, and قُ – Activity Time!
Ready to turn learning into laughter? Our Lesson 33 Activity Sheet brings the bold sounds of فُ, كُ, and قُ to life with fun and engaging practice.
Through tracing, matching, colouring, and sound drills, your child will solidify their understanding of how these powerful letters work with the Dammah. Whether it's connecting letters to sounds or spotting them in short combos, this sheet helps reinforce what they’ve just learned — in a hands-on, memorable way.
It’s perfect for quiet time after class or as a playful family challenge. Don’t forget to celebrate the little victories — each Dammah sound your child masters is a giant leap in their Quran reading journey!
Some Playful Activities
🎲 1. Sound Toss Challenge
What you need: A soft ball or cushion and some flashcards with فُ, كُ, and قُ written on them.
Place the flashcards around the room. Call out a Dammah sound (like قُ) and have your child toss the ball to the matching card. Add a twist: they must say a word that starts with that sound before throwing! (e.g., قُمر for قُ)
🎨 2. Shape & Sound Collage
Draw big bubble letters of فُ, كُ, and قُ on paper. Let your child decorate each one using materials like cotton balls, colored paper, or glitter. As they decorate, repeat the sound together. It’s multisensory and super sticky for memory!
🗣️ 3. Dammah Detective Game
Hide small paper notes around the room with words or syllables that include فُ, كُ, or قُ. (Like فُقَاعة, كُرَة, قُدْرَة). Give your child a “detective badge” and a magnifying glass (or a paper one!) and have them search and read out each clue they find.
We’d Love to Hear How Your Child Engaged with فُ، كُ، and قُ!
Was there a big smile during the Sound Toss? Did your little learner proudly trace فُ or correctly match a Dammah sound to a word? We’d be absolutely delighted to hear all about it!
Whether it’s a sweet photo, a quick voice recording, or a comment on how today’s lesson felt — your shared moments light up Teacher Noura’s day! She loves sending personalized notes of encouragement and celebrating each step forward on this journey.
With every new sound your child masters, they’re developing fluency, confidence, and a heartfelt connection to the Quranic script. And none of it would be possible without your dedication and warmth. 🌿
Keep going — one dammah at a time, you’re nurturing a love for the Quran that lasts a lifetime.
