Bayt Al-Quran: Noorani Qaida-Lesson#9|Monday
The Heavy Hitters of Arabic صَ and ضَ Step In!
Assalamu Alaikum dear parents and our bright young learners,
Let’s begin with a little memory game!
Can your child remember the letters we learned in our last lesson?
Yes, that’s right — Seen (سَ) and Sheen (شَ)! They were light, airy, and fun to pronounce, right?
Well today, we’re turning up the depth and stepping into the stronger sounds of Arabic with two new letters:
صَ (Saad) and ضَ (Dhaad)!
These letters are heavy letters, which means they have a bold sound and a powerful presence in the Arabic language—especially when reciting the Quran. They’re not just sounds; they carry a richness that makes Arabic so special.
Key Learning Points from Lesson 9:

Try this at home:
Say سَ and then صَ – feel the difference? Now say دَ and ضَ – do you notice the strength in ضَ?
These may seem tricky at first, but once your child gets the hang of them, they’ll start to enjoy Arabic even more—and Quran recitation will sound clearer, smoother, and more beautiful inshaAllah.
Let's Talk: Try These Questions with Your Child!
Can you say صَ three times without confusing it with سَ?
Which letter feels heavier in your mouth—صَ or سَ? ضَ or دَ?
Can you spot these letters in any short Surahs you’ve memorized?
Fun Activities for Mastery:
Mirror Practice: Let your child watch their tongue movement while saying ضَ and صَ.
Sound Sorting Game: Mix up flashcards with light and heavy letters, and let your child sort them!
“Guess the Letter” Game: Say the sound and let them guess whether it’s a heavy or light letter.
